300!
Congratulations to Everett High School softball coach Stacy Schiavo for recording her 300th career victory over Somerville on Patriots Day. Hired in 1998, Coach Schiavo has guided the Crimson Tide to 22 State Tournament berths and regularly has her team in contention for Greater Boston League championships. During the day, Coach Schiavo is Ms. Schiavo, a sensational teacher at the Parlin School. Great job to an All Around Winner!

THE EPS COMMUNITY

JEANS DAY: FRIDAY, MAY 6

The EPS will hold a Jeans Day Fundraiser on Friday, May 6th for a Keverian School family that suffered an unexpected and tragic death over April vacation. Please give your  $5 donation to your building’s Administrative Assistant. All collections should be forwarded to Dona McCarron at the Webster School.

 

In addition, the family has established a GoFundMe page.

SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS

David Rivera Sandoval, the recipient of Everett High School’s 2021-2022 Outstanding Vocational Student of the Year, shares the moment with friends Nicol Ipus and Paola Morales, marketing teachers Siobhan Sullivan and Tim Brooks, Interim Career and Technical Education Director Cheryl Learned, and Chief Equity Officer Cory McCarthy. Thanks to these dedicated educators for making the trip to Worcester to help David celebrate this honor.

EL SUMMER OPPORTUNITY

The EHS EL Department is in search of a Site Supervisor to plan and oversee two summer programs: Summer English Learner Academy and Virtual Credit Recovery Program for English Learners.

INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP

The district is accepting applications for the 2022 Everett Educator Professional Development Innovation Scholarship. The scholarship, for up to $5,000, is designed to fund the creativity, growth mindset and exploration of teachers who seek a dynamic training experience that will impact his/her instruction and student outcomes.

TEACHER MENTORS

The EPS is seeking Teaching Mentors for the 2022-2023 school year. Mentors will be responsible for coaching and supporting EPS teachers who are pursuing professional teacher status.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

The district's SELWELL Team will offer Mental Health First Aid training on Saturday, May 21st, in partnership with the Cambridge Health Alliance. The course will help EPS staff members learn to identify and respond to the mental-health needs of our students. Eleven (11) staff members have signed up for the training, and eight spots were still available as of April 27th.

PATHWAY TO ESL LICENSURE

The EPS is pleased to continue its partnership with Bridgewater State University to offer educators the chance to earn a graduate certificate in ESL. The EPS has negotiated a greatly reduced cost for our teachers, which the district is further subsidizing  by 50%. The 12-credit program is 100% online and it includes an MTEL prep class and an MTEL voucher. Click HERE for complete details.

PATHWAY TO MODERATE DISABILITY LICENSURE
The EPS has partnered with Endicott College to offer staff and educators the chance to enroll in a Pathway to Moderate Disability Licensure course. It is 100-percent online and includes an MTEL voucher and a Foundations of Reading MTEL Prep Class. There are two courses, one for PreK-8 licensure, the other for grades 9-12. Each course is 15-credits and includes four sections, two in the fall and two in the spring.

YOGA INSTRUCTOR
Everett Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, talented yoga Instructor to work with EPS staff after school to help support their physical fitness and mindfulness.  This program will be open to all staff.  Click HERE for complete details.

MAKE TIME TO MAKE SPACE
​​In an effort to localize and provide access to multiple robotics and engineering classes, the EPS is creating a working group to collect and set-up the 3D and laser printers in the science department.  Creation of this space will eliminate the need for repeat purchases of equipment to support the growing needs of the Robotics and Engineering classes.  This working group will also be responsible for equipment maintenance throughout the school year Click HERE for complete details..

SCREENING DAYS
The EPS is forming Screening Teams to administer assessments for incoming Kindergarten through Grade 3 students in advance of the 2022-2023 school year. The team will consist of math and literacy interventionists and elementary teachers who are proficient in administering screening assessments.  Each school’s screening team will consult with the building Principal to determine required assessments for the screening days, which may include DIBELs, PELI, Pre-Las, W-APT and Acadience Math assessments.  Click HERE for complete details.

HEALTH CURRICULUM REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT
The EPS is forming a working group to review existing, and create new, health curriculum maps for the 2022-2023 school year. Participants will propose and implement changes to existing Health Department maps, create new materials for lesson sharing, and meet with the Health and Wellness Coordinator to discuss progress and to analyze data.
