Through its comprehensive programming, Girlstart provides a year-round, intensive suite of STEM education programs for K-12 girls. Yoga and Art
Grades: K-3
Mondays from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m.
This club will be a way to teach children calming techniques and learn gross/ fine motor skills. Yoga and mindfulness has been proven to help reduce anxiety and stress, and help with attention and focus. We will work for half the time on yoga and mindfulness, and do an art activity that corresponds to the content.

An Introduction to Art Class, where students would learn about the basics of painting and have creative freedom to make their own art pieces.
Creative Writing

Students will have an outlet to write short stories and poetry and maybe have an online Lafayette School Literary magazine.
Theater Club
Grades: 5-8

Students will participate in theater games, theater activities, and star in a short play.
Crochet Club
Grades: 5-8
Tuesdays 2:45 to 4:00 p.m.
Students have expressed interest to me about wanting to make crochet items and sell them for charity or partner with student council in some way to sell their crochet items to others.Grades 7-8
Students will participate in a team based sport with a focus on personal growth and the ability to communicate and operate in a large group. There will be physical exertion as well as mental engagement with a focus on "spirit of the game", remaining competitive while taking ownership over one's own accidental fouls, etc.
Builder's Club
Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m.
Grades: 7-8
This club will be an opportunity for the 7th and 8th graders to serve the school and the surrounding community.
Learn how to crochet with Mackenzie Dowd. Crochet is a great way to relax. I am hoping this club provides students with a safe space to do an activity they enjoy as well as create a lifelong hobby for the students. Crochet is something the students can do anywhere, anytime. It takes focus and helps ease anxiety. It also helps students facilitate friendships and find a hobby that is not on their phone.

The purpose of the student council is to foster a sense of community within our middle school population. Students will get the opportunity to build leadership, teamwork, and planning skills. Members will organize a variety of events and activities for our school and community service projects.

The basketball club will teach students in grades 3-8 the basic skills of basketball in a fun, supportive environment. Students who participate will not only learn teamwork, but they will also learn about hard work and perseverance.

Sports Galore

During "Sports Galore," students will engage in various sporting activities (i.e., soccer, basketball, flag football, hockey & kickball, etc.) to foster physical activity. "Sports Galore" will also focus on teamwork, social communication & promoting students' various attributes through organized team sports.
Bonding through Boxing
Grades 3-5
The Bonding through Boxing program will provide up to 15 students in grades 3-5 with before school programming that will include physical activity (boxing), community building, and personal development. Programming will be coordinated by an on-site coordinator and 1 lead boxing instructor and at least 1 assistant instructor.

Storybook Adventures
Kindergarten

Each week students will read a new story, answer critical thinking questions, and participate in a fun movement activity and craft project. Students will leave this experience with an expanded vocabulary, improved critical thinking skills, a love of literature and having learned some meaningful connections between literature and movement, arts, and music.

Improv Club
Improv is all about the concept of "yes, and" which builds on a child's existing creativity to collaborate with peers. Students will learn the art of accepting what another person says, and adding onto it in order to create something together. Students will learn how to overcome perceived failure and things not going how they planned, by playing improv games and eventually moving on to act in scenes with one another.

Students will work together and share ideas using small and large legos, blocks, marble run, magna tiles and engineering kits. By working as a team, they will develop important life skills like problem solving, listening, leadership, and creative thinking. Learning to work together will help develop self-confidence, empathy, and compassion.

Gaming Club
Tuesdays (Grades 5-8) and Thursdays (Grades 9-12), from 2:15 to 4:00 p.m.
Gaming Club will involve both playing physical games such as football and basketball and also video games. The first half we will start off in the gym working up a nice sweat playing a game of their choice while they learn the concept of team sports and camaraderie. The second part will involve cooling off in the game room here at the Devens playing video games where we will be working on making friendships, learning how to communicate properly, and learning how to share.
