Spotlight on EPS Staff!

Theresa Gritti

The Definition of Optimism, Patience, and Caring Concern

Theresa Gritti (above), a beloved Devens School educator, concluded her long and distinguished career as an EPS art educator this week. Ms. Gritti has worked as a part-time educator for the last two years, and the EPS wishes her the absolute best as she fully starts her retirement this month.

Over the past few decades, Theresa established herself as a fierce and tireless advocate for her students’ academic and social and emotional growth and well-being. In the classroom, she encouraged her students with her light-hearted humor, optimism, patience, and caring concern.

During the early stages of  the pandemic, Theresa lost her brother to COVID-19, and she still went above and beyond for our community purchasing art supplies with her own money and dropping goodie bags of supplies at the doorsteps of her students during remote learning. She relentlessly sought opportunities for her students at the Devens by writing grants for field trips and organizing fundraisers and community events to recognize the value and importance of Devens students.

Special thanks to Christine Fallon for sharing this information with us. If anyone would like to recognize a fellow educator, please email us at [email protected]

EPS Educator Throws Out the
Ceremonial First Pitch at Fenway

Devens School teacher Kevin Doyle threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday, July 6th at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox celebrated Disability Awareness Night.

The Red Sox recognized several local families and advocates in the disability community, as well as Paralympians and Special Olympians, as part of its pregame ceremonies prior to the Red Sox-Tampa Bay Rays game. Doyle was joined by Paralympian rower and silver medalist Allie Reilly in throwing out ceremonial first pitches.

In addition to serving as a substitute special education teacher at the Devens, Mr. Doyle is a member of the Red Sox’ media relations staff.

Disability Awareness Night was coordinated in partnership with Horace Mann Education Associates (HMEA), which aims to teach, support and empower people with developmental disabilities and their families to live meaningful lives of their choice. Disability Awareness Night is part of the City of Boston’s All-Inclusive Boston culture and tourism initiative and the Red Sox’ ongoing effort to make Fenway Park an inclusive environment for all fans.
