SPOTLIGHT ON EPS STAFF

A casual posed photo of Mr. Chang, standing outside EHS

A MAGNIFICENT MANEUVER

A big tip of the cap to Everett High teacher Sung Hwa Chang for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was in serious distress during a class earlier this week. Due to Mr. Chang’s quick action, the item was safely dislodged from the student’s throat.

Mr. Chang attended the Everett Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, and has been an EHS science teacher for 13 years. Great job, Mr. Chang!

REMEMBER, IT'S A TEAM GAME

A lot goes into staging a home football game that has nothing to do with blocking and tackling. From running the concession stand to selling tickets and handing out rosters to running the scoreboard and public address system to live streaming the game on YouTube, Everett High has a large and dedicated team ready to go on Friday nights at Everett Stadium. And this says nothing of our staff who attend games simply to root on the Crimson Tide. Thanks to everyone who supports our student athletes! From left: Desirae Peary, Brittany Hay, Ryan McGowan, and Mya Wilke are pictured during our home opener vs. Somerville.

THE EPS COMMUNITY
CRIMSON WITH ENVY

Have you ever seen someone wearing a Crimson Tide T-shirt, pullover, sweatshirt, jacket, etc. and said to yourself, “Where can I get that?!” The answer might be right HERE. Peruse the selections, make a purchase (or two), and support EHS student-athletes in the process!

JEANS DAY: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8

Our next Jeans Day Fundraiser will be held on Friday, October 8. It is being organized by the English as a Second Language Department in support of the Immigrant Learning Center, which offers free English classes to students and families and helps people establish pathways to citizenship. Make your $5 contribution to your building’s Administrative Assistant. Final collections should be given to Director of English Learners Brittany Hay.

MAKE A MOVE

As part of its celebration of the cultural contributions of our LatinX and Hispanic community, the Everett Public Schools (EPS) is hosting Latin Dance class for all EPS teachers and staff. This session, led by the Bajucol Dance Studio, will be held on Tuesday, October 12 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the EHS Auditorium. Please register HERE
and we hope to see a big turnout on the 12th!

TIKTOK CHALLENGES

Superintendent Priya Tahiliani sent out an email to students and parents/guardians earlier this week regarding the TikTok “challenges” that encourage students to make short videos of inappropriate, destructive, or even illegal behavior. Districts everywhere, including the EPS, are coping with fallout from this social media trend, most recently in the form of vandalism in school restrooms.

School leaders and teachers can see the message HERE

Obviously, we ask any and all staff to report any incidents relating to this to their building leaders. Central Administration and principals and assistant principals will continue to monitor this situation and act accordingly.
