SPOTLIGHT ON EPS STAFF
EPS TEACHERS STEP UP
The Everett Teachers and Friends team, captained by Michelle Bosco, gathered in Andover on Sunday, September 19th to participate in the “Step Up for Colleen 5K Walk/Run” — a celebration of Colleen Ritzer’s life and her legacy of kindness.
The Colleen Ritzer Memorial Fund fosters a society of compassion with kindness as a motivating influence in all its endeavors. Renowned for her kindness, teaching, and love for family, the organization emulates Colleen’s compassion through scholarships, grants, and other programs with kindness and education at their core.

LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
The language learning provider ROLA is leading Spanish and Portuguese classes for 60 EPS educators and staff members this fall. The district is thrilled to be offering this opportunity during convenient after-school hours, in Everett, and at no cost to our staff. This initiative, created to help strengthen the communication and connection with families, is being overseen by Director of English Learners Brittany Hay.
We will offer another round of classes during the second semester, as well as Level 2 Spanish and Portuguese courses for those who want to continue their learning. If you are interested, please reach out to Ms. Hay.

SIS … AS EASY AS 1-2-3?
Well, maybe not that easy. But thanks to a PD course led by Data Director Curtis Tuden and Assistant Superintendent Kevin Shaw, EPS Administrative Assistants had the chance to learn and ask questions about Aspen, the district’s Student Information System, during our district-wide PD Day on Tuesday, September 21st. Thanks to all of our educators who organized, led, and participated in Tuesday’s comprehensive day of sessions.
(Still no word on whether it’s more accurate to say “Aspen” or “X2.” If we hear anything definitive, we will pass it along!)
BRANDON CONDE 5K ROAD RACE
The first-ever Brandon Conde 5K Race is set for Sunday, October 24 at 10 a.m. at Glendale Park. Brandon is a lifelong Everett resident, a product of the EPS, and a former Crimson Tide football player. He suffered a life-altering injury in July of 2019 that has left him a tetraplegic. All race proceeds will benefit Brandon and his continued recovery efforts.

At the suggestion of one of Lafayette School ESL teacher Hannah Weigert, we will hold a Jeans Day fundraiser on Friday, October 1st to benefit Progeria research. Please give your $5 donation to your building’s Administrative Assistant. Final collections should be forwarded to Ms. Weigert at the Lafayette. TEACHER ACTION RESEARCH CLUB FOR ESL TEACHERS 1-12
The EPS is seeking educators to join a WIDA team that will conduct research, guide discussions with peers, and offer one-on-one coaching to deepen understanding of the implementation of WIDA 2020. Learn more about this opportunity HERE.
ESL TEACHERS SOUGHT FOR PARENT/GUARDIAN CLASSES
The EPS is offering 5 cohorts of ESL classes for parents and guardians of our EL students. Classes will run from November to February of this school year, and we are seeking enthusiastic teachers to facilitate meaningful learning experiences for our community. Collaborate with Massachusetts teachers to bring your teaching passion projects to life by participating in the The Teacher Collaborative. The collaborative is seeking Massachusetts PreK-12 teachers who are trying amazing projects and practices in their classrooms. Teachers will strengthen their craft further and infuse one of the following strands into their practice: (1) CRT, (2) Technology Integration, or (3) College/Career/Community Readiness.
In this Co-Lab, each participant will:
- Build skills and engage in deep learning, supported by peers, in the selected strand
- Strengthen proficiency with student-centered practices in a collaborative setting
- Develop and share strong passion projects that showcase your skills and new learning
