Equity and Inclusion Survey

Welcome to the Everett Public Schools Equity and Inclusion Survey!

In this survey, the Everett Public Schools (EPS) is interested in your thoughts on the district's continuing efforts to provide equitable opportunities and a welcoming environment to students, parents, and staff of diverse ethnicities, races, cultures, genders, sexualities, religions, abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, and all other identities. We value our differences and their power to bring us closer and strengthen our community.

This study is for research purposes only. All information and responses will be maintained on a confidential basis by Hanover Research, and will be reported to the district in an anonymized form (i.e., your name and identifying information such as race and gender will not be shared with the district or tied to your responses). So, please feel free to be candid in your responses.

The Lafayette School Honors Walter Cardillo

The Lafayette School held a Green Day in memory of educator Walter Cardillo, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23rd. Mr. Cardillo was a Boston Celtics season-ticket holder, and he loved sharing his passion for the C’s with his wife, Denise, and their daughters, Kim and Kristina. Lafayette students and staff wore green on Tuesday, May 3rd and decorated the school lobby with Celtics-related artwork. It was a great way for the Lafayette community to remember Mr. Cardillo.

Congratulations, Dr. Valle

A shout-out to Everett High School English Learner Department Head Gladys Valle for completing her doctoral studies at Northeastern University. Dr. Valle successfully defended her dissertation, "¡Hacia Adelante! Building Resiliency in English Learners.” Dr. Valle is now one of the 7% of latino/as that hold a doctorate level degree. We are so incredibly proud of her.

DEVENS SCHOOL SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

The Everett Public Schools is seeking enthusiastic and qualified Special Education staff to lead the in-person Summer Session Program at the Devens School. This program aims to provide social/emotional and academic support to promote and maintain academic skill and social emotional development according to the goals and benchmarks of each students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Crisis Management Plans (ICMP).

SELWELL CURRICULUM TEAM

The EPS is seeking educators to join the PreK - 2nd grade SELWELL Curriculum Team. Members of this team will support Central Administration and school leaders in selecting and implementing a Social, Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, scope and sequence, and implementation framework for the 2022-2023 school year. We are seeking master teachers who have demonstrated interest in Social and Emotional Learning, and who are experts in analyzing formative assessment data including, but not limited to, DIBELs, ACCESS for ELs, MCAS and i-ready. As an objective of this teams’ work, we are seeking creative problem solvers who can evaluate and select a SELWELL curriculum platform with formative progress measures, develop protocols for school-teams to examine student SELWELL data, and consult on criteria for tiered interventions with Professional Support Staff.

SERVE AS A CURATE PANELIST!

High quality instructional materials are essential to student learning. When combined with effective instruction, they can also promote racial equity. CURATE (Curriculum Ratings by Teachers) convenes panels of Massachusetts teachers to evaluate and rate instructional materials to support district and school decision-making. Panelists consider the extent to which curricula are usable for teachers, are aligned to Massachusetts standards, and support culturally responsive instruction. If you have an interest in high-quality curriculum and a passion for racial equity, then we are eager to partner with you!
For Fall 2022, CURATE panels will focus on the following subjects and grade levels:

Digital Literacy and Computer Science, K-12
English/Language Arts, 9-12
Science, K-8

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every qualification listed. This should not be the case, and anyone interested is encouraged to apply. This year, preference will be given to Massachusetts teachers who consistently:

Build deep, meaningful relationships with students.
Believe in empowering students through evidence-based instruction.
Affirm students’ identities and work towards removing inequities.
Are committed to learning and being advocates for the use of high-quality curricular materials
Are experts in curriculum development, alignment, and/or selection

Panelists will receive a baseline stipend of $700, plus $250 per curriculum that the panel reviews. Teachers of color are highly encouraged to apply. The application deadline is June 30, 2022. APPLY HERE

INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP

The district is accepting applications for the 2022 Everett Educator Professional Development Innovation Scholarship. The scholarship, for up to $5,000, is designed to fund the creativity, growth mindset and exploration of teachers who seek a dynamic training experience that will impact his/her instruction and student outcomes.

TEACHER MENTORS

The EPS is seeking Teaching Mentors for the 2022-2023 school year. Mentors will be responsible for coaching and supporting EPS teachers who are pursuing professional teacher status.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

The district's SELWELL Team will offer Mental Health First Aid training on Saturday, May 21st, in partnership with the Cambridge Health Alliance. The course will help EPS staff members learn to identify and respond to the mental-health needs of our students. Eleven (11) staff members have signed up for the training, and eight spots were still available as of April 27th.

PATHWAY TO ESL LICENSURE

The EPS is pleased to continue its partnership with Bridgewater State University to offer educators the chance to earn a graduate certificate in ESL. The EPS has negotiated a greatly reduced cost for our teachers, which the district is further subsidizing by 50%. The 12-credit program is 100% online and it includes an MTEL prep class and an MTEL voucher. Click HERE for complete details.

PATHWAY TO MODERATE DISABILITY LICENSURE

The EPS has partnered with Endicott College to offer staff and educators the chance to enroll in a Pathway to Moderate Disability Licensure course. It is 100-percent online and includes an MTEL voucher and a Foundations of Reading MTEL Prep Class. There are two courses, one for PreK-8 licensure, the other for grades 9-12. Each course is 15-credits and includes four sections, two in the fall and two in the spring.

YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Everett Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, talented yoga Instructor to work with EPS staff after school to help support their physical fitness and mindfulness. This program will be open to all staff. Click HERE for complete details.

MAKE TIME TO MAKE SPACE

In an effort to localize and provide access to multiple robotics and engineering classes, the EPS is creating a working group to collect and set-up the 3D and laser printers in the science department. Creation of this space will eliminate the need for repeat purchases of equipment to support the growing needs of the Robotics and Engineering classes. SCREENING DAYS

The EPS is forming Screening Teams to administer assessments for incoming Kindergarten through Grade 3 students in advance of the 2022-2023 school year. The team will consist of math and literacy interventionists and elementary teachers who are proficient in administering screening assessments. Each school’s screening team will consult with the building Principal to determine required assessments for the screening days, which may include DIBELs, PELI, Pre-Las, W-APT and Acadience Math assessments. HEALTH CURRICULUM REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT

The EPS is forming a working group to review existing, and create new, health curriculum maps for the 2022-2023 school year. Participants will propose and implement changes to existing Health Department maps, create new materials for lesson sharing, and meet with the Health and Wellness Coordinator to discuss progress and to analyze data.
