READ ALL ABOUT IT! A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
The EPS is exploring the creation of a multi-day Professional Development conference called the “Reading Institute” to help secondary educators expand their skills in teaching students how to read. We envision the Reading Institute will feature speakers and sessions that support foundational reading instruction. Before we enter the planning stages, we want your input on time, schedules, and content. Please complete THIS SURVEY to help the district plan accordingly.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR EPS STAFF
DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE IEPs
A virtual professional development course led by Allan Blume will be available to teachers in 2022. You can sign-up through your TeachPoint account, and early registration is encouraged as there is a limit on the number of participants.
There are two choices on days and times:
- Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. on March 8th, March 22nd, and April 5th
- Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m. on February 26th and March 12th
This workshop presents suggestions, ideas and strategies for writing effective IEPs. Included in the workshop: Student strengths and key evaluation summary statement, Impact of the disability statement, accommodations/modification/specially designed instruction, determining goal focus areas, writing effective current performance levels observable and measurable goals and objectives/benchmarks, service delivery grid.
Models and templates will be used to guide participants with concepts they can use in their own IEP writing practice.
Participants will learn and immediately apply usable strategies, templates and approaches to IEP development requirements. The overall outcome is to use these strategies to ease the process of IEP writing while maintaining rigorous standards and individualization.
LIAISON NEEDED
The EPS is seeking to fill a stipend position for a Homeless Liaison at Everett High School. This individual will serve as an advocate for unaccompanied students between the ages of 18-22 with housing and employment assistance and access to community resources. The Homeless Liaison shall coordinate and collaborate with community partners and school personnel responsible for the provision of education and related services to homeless students.

THE ABC's OF IXL
The EPS is pleased to announce we have secured IXL accounts for all of our grade 6-12 educators and students until March 2022. We are considering purchasing IXL for future years based on your interest, usage, and feedback.
IXL is a flexible and easy-to-use skills trainer with built-in diagnostics and analytics for K-12 Math and ELA. IXL also includes skills for grades 2-8 science, 2-8 social studies and Spanish 1. It is accessible via Clever for all grade 6-12 students and teachers.
IXL is a fantastic tool for Intervention or WIN Block to help students strengthen fundamental skills. There are multiple effortless and creative ways of implementing IXL into your classroom routine as well.

ANGEL CAMPAIGN
The EPS Guidance Department is leading a Christmas Angel campaign to bring some joy and comfort to students who might be struggling financially or emotionally. If you have a student in mind, kindly share their information with guidance. Guidance counselors will reach out to the students and have them fill out a form with things that they wish/need for Christmas. Staff will then have an opportunity to become donors ("Angels") and fulfill a random student's wish.
For now, all we need you to do is give us names of students that you think might be struggling (financially or emotionally) and email Fernanda Andrade your name if you wish to be a Donor. We will be collecting student's names from now until December 15. Thank you so much for your support!
