CONGRESSWOMAN PRESSLEY VISITS THE LAFAYETTE SCHOOL — Thanks to the Lafayette School for hosting a successful and collaborative visit from Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, whose Congressional District includes Everett, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Congresswoman Pressley read to third- and fourth-grade classrooms, toured the building, and held a roundtable discussion with Superintendent William Hart, Lafayette leadership, educators, and school and city leaders. The event gave the EPS team the chance to showcase the Lafayette School and discuss important educational and policy issues. Thanks to Congresswoman Pressley for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit spend time with our students and staff.

Opportunities for our Educators
K-5 iReady Math Curriculum Support Team for EL and SPED Modifications 
The district is seeking educators to join the K-5 iReady Math Curriculum Implementation Team, which will support the implementation of the iReady Classroom Mathematics (2024) Curriculum. The team will work to create EL and SPED supports and guidelines for the curriculum’s slides, assessments, and other materials. The team will work together to create a shared drive for each grade level that consists of the supports mentioned above, and provide additional fluency for each lesson/unit.  The team will also reach out to other grade level teachers for best practices. In addition, the team will update the pacing calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.

Professional Development Instructor Application
Do you have a high-quality professional development idea? Would you like to have it considered to be included in the 2024-25 Everett Public Schools (EPS) Professional Development Course Catalog? If so, please complete the PD Instructor Application by May 17, 2024.

The Professional Development Committee is now accepting applications for courses on the following topics:
  • Social Emotional Learning and Wellness Practices
  • Classroom Management Strategies
  • Trauma Informed Teaching Practices
  • Special Education/Inclusion Practices
  • ESL/SEI Strategies
  • Co-Teaching Strategies and Best Practices
  • WIN/Intervention Support
  • Strategies for Implementing Curriculum
  • Writing/ Literacy Strategies across content areas (PK-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12)   
  • Culturally Responsive and Anti-Racist Teaching Practices
  • Professional Learning specifically aimed for Paraprofessionals
  • Professional Learning specifically aimed for Admin Professionals

Launch Scholarship to Duet + SNHU
As an Everett Public Schools staff member, you are eligible for a $1,500 Launch Scholarship to Duet + SNHU. Scholarships are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.It’s flexible, affordable college degree program is designed for individuals who want to start or finish their degrees while working full-time.

The first step to learning more about the scholarship is speaking with a program representative.

2024 Innovation Scholarship Information
If you are an EPS staff member, you are encouraged to apply for a 2024 Innovation Scholarship. This scholarship fund fosters the creativity, growth, and exploration of staff members who seek a dynamic training experience that will impact student outcomes.

BU Consortium: Educator Learning Grants Program:
Call for 2024-2025 Proposals
The Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development Consortium Council is pleased to share its annual Educator Learning Grants Program Call for Proposals. The primary goal of the BU Consortium is to support the professional learning of district members. The BU Consortium Grants Program provides funding for projects that support the learning and growth of educators and their students. 

Grant proposals must include a learning component for educators. Educators will identify an aspect of teaching/ learning that they wish to investigate and articulate the process they will engage in to explore that aspect of their practice. Educators will then design, implement, or evaluate some aspect of instruction or school activity with the goal of supporting educator and student learning and growth. Informal collaboration with BU Wheelock faculty is encouraged, but not required.
