Tour and Meet and Greet Hosted by the Whittier School
The Whittier School hosted Everett Public Schools (EPS) leadership and distinguished guests for a special visit highlighting the invaluable efforts of the school’s City Year AmeriCorps members.

“It was a pleasure to meet the City Year members and see how essential they are to our K to 8 students,” said Interim Superintendent William Hart. “And a special thank you to City Year Executive Director Monica Roberts for being with us to mark the successful partnership between her organization and the EPS.”

Also in attendance for the tour and meet and greet on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, were: Assistant Superintendent of Finance Ms. Anu Medappa Jayanth

School Committee Member Mrs. Jeannie Christiano
  • City Year Board Member Ms. Diane Ryan
  • City Year Board Member Ms. Meryl Puopolo
  • City Year Chief of Staff Ms. Erika Alvarez Werner
  • City Year Managing Director of Impact Ms. Nicole Youngue

Principal Mike McLucas and Assistant Principal Cara Fidalgo led the guests on a tour of the building, where they watched the City Year members interact with students and educators inside Whittier classrooms. Afterwards, the group met and talked about the critical  services CIty Year provides every day.

“They make genuinely positive connections with students and teachers,” said Mr. McLucas. “By offering one-to-one assistance with assignments and meeting immediate social emotional needs, they are an incredible asset to our school community.”

The City Year also supports school events such as the Fall Festival and Coffee with the Principal. Additionally, they create bulletin boards filled with valuable information, as well as design paintings and mosaics that reflect the monthly themes the school promotes.

City Year Greater Boston was formed in August of 2021, when the organization ventured outside of Boston for the first time by partnering with the Everett Public Schools.

Educators Enjoy an Outing to Boda Borg
The Everett Public Schools (EPS) Arts Department held its annual faculty holiday party on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Boda Borg in Malden.

The educators split into three-person teams and competed in a variety of "quests” that challenge participants mentally and physically. Activities include mysteries, puzzles, and obstacles. Questers are not provided with any instructions or the amount of  time they have to complete the quest.  If a team fails a room in the quest, they must start over and try again. If a team successfully completes the first room of the quest, they gain entry into the next. Winning teams conquer every room of a quest.
