Every Voice, Every Story, Every Day!
Weekly Message from the Superintendent

Before you settle in for the first weekend of May, I want to share some quick highlights with all faculty and staff.

The Everett High School Culinary Arts Department is being featured on this weekend’s episode of “Wicked Bites,” which airs Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and again on Sunday at 10 p.m. Please tune in and/or DVR the show, which highlights our student chefs and our thriving Culinary Arts Department. My thanks to hosts Scott Whitley and Leigh Jeanine for spending so much time and effort on the broadcast. Thanks, as well, to Culinary Department Head Carolynn Parmenter, our culinary faculty, and our partners at Whitsons for setting the stage for the “Wicked Bites” crew to cover the annual Whitsons Culinary Challenge, a fun competition in which junior Culinary Arts students make delicious dishes that also fulfill federal school lunch guidelines.

I was honored to accept the Triangle Inc. Inclusion Community Award on behalf of the Everett Public Schools (EPS) at the organization’s Annual Awards Ceremony and Fundraiser on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge. Triangle, Inc. empowers people with disabilities and their families to enjoy rich, fulfilling lives. For the second consecutive year, Triangle team members are working with the EPS Facilities and Maintenance Department to complete projects in our schools. I was joined at Wednesday’s celebration with (below, L-R) Facilities and Maintenance Director Rob Moreschi, School Committee Chairperson Samantha Hurley, Mayor Robert Van Campen, and Assistant Superintendent Dennis Lynch.

Last night, we held our first Strategic Planning Stakeholder Meeting inside the Everett High School Cafeteria, where 66 people gathered for a night of discussion and activities facilitated by consultant (and former Fall River and Barnstable superintendent) Meg Mayo-Brown, who I am pictured with above. We have assembled a diverse and talented team of parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners to serve on the committee and help the EPS develop a focused Strategic Plan that will guide the district over the next three years.  (Click on the image above for a photo album of last night's meeting.)

Finally, the Everett High School (EHS) Theatre Company is staging “Grease” next Thursday and Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in the EHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5 (cash only). We hope to see large crowds for the spring show, which is also the last time our seniors will take the stage as members of the Theatre Company.

A Taylor-Made Lesson Plan
Lend us your ears! Kaly Giovino’s Grade 5 class at the Whittier School wrapped up its CKLA Unit on Shakespeare this week with a special culminating activity. Students turned Taylor Swift lyrics into Shakespearean English and presented their work to classmates and special guests.  The students showed their understanding of the challenging language used in Shakespearean literature and practiced the important skill of public speaking. Above (L-R) Instructional Coach Jennifer McGowan, Ms. Giovino, Grade 7 English teacher Kylie Coffey, Grade 4 teacher Kathryn Chadwick, and Grade 7 student Kaiya Chadwick.
