MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
A Great Weekend for the EPS
Thanks to everyone who joined our Homecoming festivities on October 9-10, 2026. From our school-to-school rolling rally to Friday night’s victory over Revere to Saturday morning’s Homecoming Hustle and Pancake Breakfast, we enjoyed great weather, lots of fun, and immeasurable community spirit.

Homecoming is a coordinated effort involving many people and departments from the Everett Public Schools and the City of Everett. It celebrates and connects our current students with alumni, civic leaders, and residents. Thank you to the EPS faculty and staff who volunteered their time to help with Friday night’s pre-game festivities and Saturday’s Pancake Breakfast (to benefit the Crimson Tide Athletic Department). I was especially pleased to see an impressive crowd at the breakfast, a tradition we revived last year and which I hope and trust will continue to gain in popularity in the coming years.

Just as importantly, it was awesome to see our side of Veterans Memorial Stadium packed for Friday’s 35-27 victory, which keeps us firmly in the running for a Division 1 playoff berth.

Finally, my congratulations to the inaugural class of inductees in the Everett High School Athletic Hall of Fame:

Rolling Rally!
Homecoming Weekend kicked off in grand style with a rolling rally featuring the Crimson Tide Marching Band, Everett senior cheerleaders and football players, and special characters, including Spider-Man, Elmo, Cinderella, and SpongeBob. The group visited every school on Friday, October 9, 2026, bringing energy and excitement that lasted through the final whistle of Everett’s 35-27 victory over Revere. At left, Webster School Principal Devon Abruzzese is pictured with one of her former students, Everett High senior cheerleader Sophia Almeida.

Dunn Completes Rigorous Fitness Competition
Congratulations to Everett High School teacher and head girls basketball coach RileyDunn (left) for taking on the HYROX fitness competition last weekend. HYROX combines running, strength, and endurance in a challenging test of overall fitness. Through dedication, determination, and a commitment to pushing personal limits, Riley exemplifies the qualities we hope to inspire in our students both in and out of the classroom. We’re proud to celebrate Riley and the example they set for our school community!

Girls on the Run Fundraiser
Madeline English School teachers Krystal Quinn and Renee Heffron have had the privilege of coaching the Girls on the Run Maddy team for 3 years. You can find them running alongside their students at practices and Girls on the Run 5Ks, encouraging them to build confidence, strength, and a love of running. Now they’re stepping up to a new challenge as Girls on the Run SoleMates, training together for the BAA Half Marathon!

They are running to help make sure every girl has the opportunity to participate in Girls on the Run at no cost. To make this a reality, they are raising funds for this incredible organization and would love the support of the Everett Public Schools community. Please consider donating, sharing their fundraiser with colleagues, or simply cheering them on.

Bringing Literature to Life
As the Whittier School Grade 6 team concluded ELA Unit One, “Dahl & Narrative,” students took part in a fun, engaging review activity planned by teachers Kassidy Butt, Carmela Tiberi, and Krista Davis.

The students visited Mrs. Pratchett’s candy shop, a main setting in the stories, and described whether the candy from “Sherbert Suckers” and “Liquorice Bootlaces” sounded and looked appealing or unappetizing. Students then toured the room in a gallery-walk style and answered multiple-choice questions about a story from the text. This activity kept students engaged as they reviewed the main ideas and important details from the stories.

Together We Rise
We have great teachers. We have great students. We have great families. The photo above perfectly represents that trifecta! Veteran EPS teacher Elena Hickey is pictured with her daughters, Ella and Rebecca, two Everett High School graduates who went on to Flagler College and the University of Rhode Island, respectively. It was great to see them at last Friday’s Homecoming celebration at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
