MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Community Meeting on School Space

Our intense pursuit to solve overcrowding in our K-8 schools is on the precipice of a significant step forward. Thanks to the equally unrelenting efforts of Mayor Robert J. Campen and his team, the City of Everett and the Everett Public Schools are ready to present real options to develop and rehabilitate existing space for our Grade 7 and 8 students.

I will join Mayor Van Campen at a special community meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Parlin School. Representatives from the architectural firm Perkins Eastman and the project management company Left Field will also be there to present findings and possible solutions. You can learn more about the meeting here, and I encourage our faculty and staff to attend. The meeting will give us a chance to reiterate what you already know: We need space, and building out a school for Grade 7-8 students will have a cascading effect across all five EPS K-8 schools.

Hopefully, the day is approaching when we can start talking about how we will address a problem you have long had to cope with.
On a different note, by now you have likely seen the social media and television coverage we received this week, thanks to the members of our boys basketball team who selflessly aided a stranded motorist on Revere Beach Parkway last weekend. WCVB reported on it twice: once with our players only and again yesterday, when the driver, Robin Gay, personally thanked the student-athletes inside the Crimson Cafe. Channel 5 reporters Peter Eliopoulos and Jennifer Eagan were gracious with their time and energy and made an awesome story even better.

Lastly, I want to draw your attention to the link above, highlighting the press event we hosted on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Parlin School. We were joined by Mayor Robert J. Van Campen, MassDOT Interim Secretary Philip Eng, Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Oglive, and Triple-A Northeast Senior Spokesperson Mark Schieldrop, who promoted the initiative “School’s Open, Drive Carefully.”
Thank you to everyone for getting the school year off to an upbeat start and embodying the belief that “Together We Rise!”

Have a great weekend.

William D. Hart

Congratulations, Josephine Dougan!
The Massachusetts Art Education Association (MAEA) has named Everett High School teacher Josephine Dougan as its 2027 Secondary Art Educator Award winner.

Ms. Dougan earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master's in Art Education from Lesley University, where she earned a Stephen D. Paine Grant to study fine arts textile explorations. She leveraged this experience to design and develop a fibers program at Everett High School, as well as an after-school textiles club.

For the past four years, Ms. Dougan has served as the Costume Director for the EHS Theater Company, teaching students garment design and construction, tailoring, and surface techniques.

In addition, for the past five years, she has co-taught a college drawing course in Italy, where one of her murals is on display at Castello di Montecchio, Tuscany.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Dougan on this prestigious, well-deserved honor. She will be officially recognized at the MAEA Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Sturbridge Host Hotel.
