Every Voice, Every Story, Every Day!
Weekly Message from the Superintendent

As I do from time to time, I will use this week’s update to highlight a few quick but noteworthy items.

Off the top, and on behalf of Chief Technology Officer Joe Patuto, I want to thank EPS teachers and staff for the strong initial participation and positive feedback we are receiving following the rollout of our cybersecurity training. Special thanks to Chief Information Security Officer David Wright for curating the training sessions, which are informative, reasonably short, and engaging — always a great combination!

Mark your calendars for three great events on deck for the week of April 6, 2206. The Music Department’s Vocal Night Festival is set for Tuesday, April 7th at 6 p.m. in the Everett High School (EHS) Auditorium. Then, on Thursday, April 9th, we have two events back-to-back: Everett High Art Night runs from 4 to 6 p.m. in the EHS Library, while a Night of Percussion will kick off at 6 p.m. in the Gymnasium. The photo above is from one of two Band Nights held last week.

Our spring sports season is underway. Visit the Crimson Tide Athletics website for updated schedules for every Crimson Tide team.

Thanks to everyone who organized, supported, and oversaw this week’s MCAS testing. It’s always a stressful week, and I applaud the work you all do to ease minds and lift spirits. Below is a photo from the Whittier School, which held a pep rally on Tuesday to get students in the right frame of mind.

Finally, please remember that street cleaning begins on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Take note of street signs and parking restrictions to avoid ticketing and towing.

Have a great weekend!

William D. Hart

Jeans Day: April 16, in Memory of Stephen Patenaude

family photo, outdoors, husband, wife, and two small children
The Everett Public Schools (EPS) will hold a district-wide Jeans Day in memory of EPS teacher Mr. Stephen Patenaude on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Proceeds will benefit autism research and education. Autism was a cause close to Stephen’s heart, as he was a strong supporter following his son’s diagnosis. This is a meaningful way to honor his memory while supporting a cause that mattered deeply to him. Please make your $5 contribution to your building’s Administrative Assistant and all final donations should be forwarded to the Lafayette School.

Thanks to Lafayette School teachers Janae Lunde and Faith Camplese for developing this great way to keep Mr. Patenaude and his family in our thoughts.

Home Visit Initiative
As part of Superintendent Hart's continual efforts to address attendance — and build on gains the EPS has made over the last two and a half years — the district is pleased to be participating in a Parent Teacher Home Visit Program in partnership with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Parent Teacher Home Visit organization. This initiative is part of a national effort to explore how supported teacher home visits can strengthen relationships with families and improve student engagement and attendance, particularly for English Language Learners and immigrant students.

The EPS is one of a select group of districts from across the country participating in this work. Through this program, teachers will conduct relationship-building home visits using an established protocol designed to support positive partnerships between schools and families. We are currently looking for teams to participate. Staff will conduct visits in pairs, and each pair will plan to visit at least six homes this spring (three from each teacher’s classroom).

Interested educators can apply via TalentEd. Please note that the Parent Teacher Home Visit organization will host a training session on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Living History
To help bring the American Revolution to life, an actor read “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” to Kate Larkin’s Grade 4 class at the Whittier School. This engaging experience connected students to literature and historical events, deepening their understanding of the role Paul Revere played in the American Revolution. Hands-on moments like this help make history memorable, meaningful, and fun. Great job, Ms. Larkin.
