WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH 2026!
A big thanks to Boston journalist Amaka Ubaka for speaking to Everett High School (EHS) students on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in recognition of Women’s History Month. An anchor with WHDH 7NEWS and a journalist since 2010, Ms. Ubaka talked to members of the EHS Wave Club and history students inside the Crimson Café. Ms. Ubaka was gracious with her time and stayed long after her presentation to answer questions from students. Additional thanks to 7NEWS for airing a segment of Ms. Ubaka’s visit, which you can view the segment of Ms. Ubaka's visit.

Weekly Message from the Superintendent
I joined EPS Principals and Central Administrators yesterday for our monthly School Leader Meeting. As always, the proceedings concluded with a quick roundtable in which principals shared a couple of quick, fun highlights from their schools. It’s not meant to be heavy, just a light way to wrap things up in a way that leaves us feeling energized and enthusiastic. It always works.
To start, it’s a cliché but nonetheless important to note that not one of our principals use the personal pronoun “I” during this exercise. They speak in terms of “we”, “our”, and “us” — as in, what are we accomplishing, what is being done for our students, and what benefits us as the members of the Everett Public Schools. It is also true to say that they speak with genuine appreciation for the work you do with our students, both inside the classroom and in the larger realm of the EPS community.
Two building leaders — Laurie Stokes at the Webster Extension and Tiffany Boakye at the Devens — discussed how they held their Read Across America events to best serve their students. In Ms. Stokes’s case, instead of inviting guest readers the pre-kindergarten students don’t know, she asked teachers to read to students in different classrooms; Ms. Boakye read a book to every student in the building via Zoom, which proved so popular she is considering doing it every month.
Devon Abruzzese reported strong attendance and engagement by parents for a recent MCAS information breakfast. Paolo Lambresa highlighted a “March Madness” attendance contest at the Madeline English. Janet Taylor told us about the Lafayette’s Unified Basketball program. Mike McLucas and Darelene Pugnali are both planning MCAS pep rallies to infuse some fun into start of the test day. EHS Principal Dr. John Braga lauded the success of the Theatre Company’s special performance for middle school students of “The Lottery.” Mr. Naumann promoted a door decorating contest that asked teachers and classrooms to connect their entries to relevant curriculum and the Keverian School’s core values. And Jessyca Reder reflected on the School Spotlight that Adams School teachers and students prepared for the March 16th School Committee meeting.
One might say these are small things. But I say they are the essential things we link together to hold up our students and our district.
Certainly, they are among the things that make this space ideal to say, Thank You and Keep it Up!
Have a great weekend!
William D. Hart

Putting the Barr Grant to Work
As part of the initiative being funded by a substantial grant from the Barr Foundation, Everett High School (EHS) recently began its collaboration with Springpoint on enhancing and focusing teaching at EHS and the Everett Alternative High School. Springpoint held on-site visits to lead a Practical, Appropriate, Reliable, Valid (PARV) review to help teachers and administrators reflect on instructional practices, analyze evidence, and identify meaningful next steps for professional growth. Thanks to everyone who participated and shared ideas.

Home Visit Initiative
We are excited to share an opportunity for teachers to participate in a Parent Teacher Home Visit Program in partnership with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Parent Teacher Home Visit organization. This initiative is part of a national effort to explore how teacher home visits can strengthen relationships with families and improve student engagement and attendance, particularly for English Language Learners and immigrant students.
The EPS is one of a select group of districts from across the country participating in this work. Through this program, teachers will conduct relationship-building home visits using an established protocol designed to support positive partnerships between schools and families. We are currently looking for teams to participate. Staff will conduct visits in pairs, and each pair will plan to visit at least six homes this spring (three from each teacher’s classroom).
If you are interested in participating, please apply via TalentEd for the posting. Note: The Parent Teacher Home Visit organization will host a training session on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m.
This is a meaningful opportunity to build deeper relationships with families, learn more about our students’ experiences, and support engagement in powerful ways.
Thank you for considering being part of this important work.
