Teachers and students are hard at work during one of the district’s February Vacation Acceleration Academies.
Every Voice, Every Story, Every Day!
Weekly Message from the Superintendent
As I write this, I’m looking at a mostly blue sky and a splash of sunshine, and I certainly don’t see anything white and flaky falling to the ground. I hope these are encouraging signs that the snow piles that surround us will begin to recede and severe winter weather will begin to slide off our radars. In the meantime, my thanks to our teachers and staff for returning to class on Wednesday, as we got back into the swing of things after a seven-day break that encompassed February Vacation and the two snow days.
A couple of quick notes: Thanks to the 49 teachers and staff who led the district’s February Vacation Acceleration Academies and delivered targeted small-group instruction focused on grade-level literacy and math skills. Through collaborative activities, approximately 400 K-6 students strengthened their communication, teamwork, and academic skills. They also explored diverse texts featuring characters and topics from a variety of cultural backgrounds, helping them connect their learning to broader perspectives and deepen their background knowledge. We are planning Academies for the April break. Interested teachers can apply HERE.
Congratulations to our coaches and the EHS Athletic Department for wrapping up the 2025-2026 winter athletic season. Thanks to those who made the trip to Methuen High School on Wednesday night to cheer on the Crimson Tide boys basketball team as it competed in the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament. The Winter Banquet is set for March 10 at 6 p.m. at Anthony’s of Malden, and I look forward to celebrating our athletes with their coaches and families.
Have a great weekend!

Congratulations, Marena MacLaughlin
Everett Public Schools (EPS) K-8 Social Studies Director Marena MacLaughlin has received the 2026 Charles Mitsakos Outstanding Supervisor Award from the Massachusetts Council for Social Studies.
The Council’s annual awards are presented to the most gifted educators in our state who commit themselves to the development of students’ capacities for critical and historical thinking and active citizenship.
Veteran EPS educator and Whittier School social studies teacher Lisa Yendriga-Norberg nominated Ms. MacLaughlin for the honor by submitting a letter and supporting materials that described in detail Ms. MacLaughlin’s outstanding accomplishments as an educator. Amidst a remarkably strong field of candidates, Ms. MacLaughlin’s talents and contributions to the EPS emerged as being clearly deserving of recognition.

Advocating for Our Students
Great job by Everett High School teacher Sung Hwa Chang (left) for securing a scholarship for junior Raghav Verma (right) to attend, at no cost, the BioBuilder Educational Foundation’s 2026 Summer Research Program. During the two-week program, scientists from Harvard, Tufts, MIT, and Boston University will help the students launch independent biodesign and bioengineering projects. Raghav is a student in Mr. Hwa Chang’s pharmacy class.
