A Message from the Superintendent
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope you enjoyed a great first full week of 2026! As a district, we started the year in style by hosting the 2026 City of Everett Inaugural Exercises on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Mayor Robert Van Campen and the members of the School Committee and City Council were sworn into office during a formal event inside the Everett High School (EHS) Auditorium — which served as an ideal setting for the festivities. Governor Maura Healey and U.S. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley were among the elected officials and distinguished guests who helped mark the occasion, and it was great to see many of our administrators and educators in the Auditorium for an event that celebrates our city and our democracy.
Afterwards, the Committee and Council held their Organizational Meetings inside the EHS Library, while the EHS Cafeteria was the site of a community reception.
The full force of our district was on display throughout the evening: Our Student Ambassadors were, as ever, gracious and helpful in welcoming guests to EHS; Crimson Tide Band and orchestra members provided the music; our auditorium and custodial teams prepped the stage in grand fashion; our communications team live-streamed the event; Whitsons, our food service partner, prepared the buffet for the post-inaugural reception; and Director of Strategic Initiatives Rosemary Hughes served as the primary liaison between the district and City Hall.
It was an awesome way to start the year, and my thanks to everyone who played a part in its success.
Have a great weekend!
William D. Hart

MassBioEd and Everett High School
Professionals from the Massachusetts Biotechnology Education Foundation (MassBioEd) led a grant-funded professional development session of the 2025-2026 school year on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Everett High School (EHS) teachers and their co-teachers from the Special Education Department worked collaboratively to learn Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), a critical lab technique that enables scientists — and future scientists — to quickly make millions of copies of DNA. Those samples can then be used in a variety of lab applications, including gel electrophoresis, a technique our teachers and students are already using, and which has several real-life applications.
In addition to funding and leading the training, MassBioEd provided EHS teachers with the equipment required for PCR labs during science classes and afterschool programming. Thanks to MassBioEd for its continued support and to the participating teachers for their engagement and enthusiasm, and to Superintendent William Hart, Assistant Superintendent Dennis Lynch, and EHS Principal Dr. John Braga for visiting the training on January 2nd.

EPS-Led Professional Development
Everett High School teachers are pictured during a Professional Development (PD) session on Friday, January 2, 2026, focusing on the Learning Walk Process. The PD was led by EPS instructional directors and faculty and generated a high level of energy and engagement among the participants. Thanks to everyone who put so much thought and effort into planning and leading the mandatory PD on January 2nd.
