A Message from the Superintendent
Veterans Day in the Everett Public Schools
This week’s message is dedicated to Veterans and the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. I especially want to thank the many members of the Everett Public Schools (EPS) who are veterans and/or are relatives of veterans.

As a district, we will continue to honor Veterans Day to the greatest extent possible. Thanks to our music teachers and building leaders for holding concerts teeming with patriotic music and themes. The Lafayette held its performance yesterday, the Keverian’s was this morning, and the Madeline English’s concert is scheduled for Monday.

Special thanks to Everett’s new Director of Veterans Affairs, Erika Corbeli, for speaking to students at several schools in the days leading up to Veterans Day. Ms. Corbeli graduated from Everett High and is a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran and has quickly proven to be an awesome partner of the EPS.

As always, Everett High School musicians are playing a key role in Everett’s Veterans Day ceremonies. Our musicians will visit the Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea on Friday, November 7, 2025, and they will perform during the city’s Veterans Day Ceremony and Luncheon on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Edward G. Connolly Center

In addition, our students have countless greeting cards filled with well wishes for Everett veterans, which Ms. Corbeli will help us distribute.

I am no doubt missing some things. If you and your students have done anything special for Veterans Day, please share it with us!

Have a great weekend.

Professional Development Day: Writing
Middle school ELA and Social Studies teachers participated in the Keys to Literacy Content Writing professional development session held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Teachers examined and implemented research-based best practices for writing instruction that can be integrated across all subjects and aligned with literacy standards, as well as district initiatives currently in practice. Above, Grade 7 ELA, Social Studies and Inclusion teachers engage in a sentence scramble, an activity that develops syntactical awareness in enhancing writing sentences and paragraphs.
Professional Development Day: ESL
During the district-wide professional development day held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Grade 6-8 EL teachers participated in a session entitled, “Unpacking Units from Lift with Student-Centered Literacy Strategies.” Middle school teachers from across the district worked together on the Lift curriculum.
Professional Development Day: Science
During the district-wide professional development day held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Biology and Chemistry teachers worked with longtime EPS partners MassBioEd on a training that helps align lab classes to HQIM, NGSS, and state standards. MassBioEd worked with EHS to secure a grant that funds the training, as well as the materials students need to conduct the experiments in class.
