State Seal of Biliteracy

Dear EPS Families,
Everett Public Schools is excited to offer the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy. We would like to invite your student, as a graduating senior, to participate in this prestigious award.

The Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to high school graduates with a high level of proficiency in both English and another language, whether they speak the non-English language at home or learned it at school or in the community. If this dual proficiency can be demonstrated, the State Seal will be placed on their high school diploma and transcript.

The Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:
  • Encourage students to study and master languages;
  • Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;
  • Recognize the value of language diversity;
  • Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;
  • Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for the attainment of high level skills in languages;
  • Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society

A student must meet the following criteria for the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy:
  • Meets all graduation requirements
  • English Language Criteria: Grade 10 ELA MCAS Score of 472 - 500 (Seal With Distinction 501+)
  • World Language Criteria: Attainment of a minimum Intermediate High score on the STAMP Assessment (Seal With Distinction Advanced Low score)

We will be in touch once the dates of testing are confirmed.

Thank you so much for your continued partnership as we work together to prepare our students for the challenges of tomorrow.
