I.D.E.A. Reading Goals

All Everett families and educators are invited to attend a free presentation by a literacy expert Nancy Duggan, M.S.C. on Wednesday, December 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the Madeline English School.

The Everett Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is hosting the lecture, entitled “I.D.E.A Reading Goals.” The forum will help educators and parents create research-based reading goals through a discussion of the skills that define reading, the essential components of reading instruction, and the assessments that measure them.

Duggan is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the organization, De-Coding Dyslexia MA, which is part of a nationwide network that works to inform families accurately regarding evidence based interventions proven to help dyslexic students learn to read, raise awareness of policies and legislation that effect dyslexic students, create an informed network of families working to improve literacy and education for students with dyslexia.

She is trained both as a school counselor and a reading teacher.  She is working at the policy level to empower teachers, parents and districts with the science to support successful reading skills for all children, including those who struggle the most. Her parent Reading Goals Workshop is for parents whose children have or need reading goals. She walks through the reasons kids struggle and the steps to ensure improved reading abilities. Using the science of reading and the laws in place for reading instruction parents and teachers can come together to create a plan for reading success. This overview provides parents with a structure to discuss reading needs and reading goals in a meaningful and productive way.

The Everett SEPAC encourages everyone to attend what is sure to be an informative and helpful forum.
