GAME DAY OPERATIONS
Despite the final score, Friday’s season and home opener inside Veterans Memorial Stadium was a giant success! We had a large and enthusiastic crowd that included band members, cheerleaders, current students and alums, teachers and staff, parents, and longtime and dedicated fans of the Crimson Tide football team. It was a tremendous show of support and community spirit.

Special thanks to the many EPS employees who volunteer their time on game nights, from selling tickets to staffing the concession stand. The long list includes teacher Jillian Ells, who is pictured above with Superintendent Priya Tahiliani.

CONGRATULATIONS, MS. MORELLI!

The EPS extends its congratulations to Madeline English School seventh-grade teacher Maureen Morelli for becoming a certified SEL facilitator and yoga instructor through the national organization Breath for Change. Ms. Morelli completed the extensive course with funding from the EPS Innovation Scholarship program. The district will post details about the next round of Innovation Scholarships later in 2022-2023.

JEANS DAY FUNDRAISERS: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
AND FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

We will hold a district-wide Jeans Day fundraiser on Friday, September 16th to support our EHS Health and Public Service Academy students who are participating in the 14th Annual ALS & MS Walk for Living. 

On Friday, September 23rd, we will hold a Jeans Day fundraiser to benefit EPS families impacted by the September 9th fire on Pearl Street in Everett.

All staff now have access to EdPuzzle Pro! EdPuzzle is a platform that allows teachers to create interactive video lessons that spark creativity and curiosity.

FROM THE CURRICULUM TEAM

PD Options Beginning in October

Now that school is back in session, we want to highlight some of the PD options from our catalog on TeachPoint that are beginning in the next month. 

What Does it Mean to be an American?
ReImagining Migration staff will facilitate an 11-hour course on teaching about immigration/migration for educators who work with students in grades 7-12. The course will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions with required attendance, readings, and a final project due at the end of the last session.   

This course will address the essential question, "What does it mean to be an American?" After attending the session, educators will be able to: Dissect the answer to the essential question using readings, discussion questions, and other materials; Complete activities, reading, and discussions on how to teach about immigration/migration in American identity; and Create and share a classroom or school-wide project that reflects learning from the session using materials and information gained from the sessions.

Zoom Sessions on Tuesdays

• October 4, 2022 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• December 6, 2022 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
• January 24, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Equity in the Classroom 
This professional development will allow teachers to participate in deep study and discussion of core materials related to race and equity, including books, articles, podcasts, videos, etc. Participants will understand and articulate the need for engaging in conversations on race and equity. Through interactive activities, participants will consider their "WHY" and will build foundational tools for facilitating conversations on race and equity. Participants will learn about Equity Detours and how they impact sustaining anti-racism

Zoom Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on the following dates:

• October 11th
• October 25th
• November 15th
• November 29th 

Academic Discourse Professional Learning Community with Jeff Zwiers
These virtual meetings will provide ongoing follow-up and support for teachers/administrators in cultivating the focal enhancements and strategies for the year regarding academic discourse. We will start by agreeing on a focal inquiry related to the yearlong focus of classroom communication. Then at the beginning of each meeting, we will share classroom videos and student evidence and reflect on student learning and any tweaks or next steps to try. We will address rich questions that come up and collaborate to overcome challenges that arise in the work.

Zoom Sessions will be held on Mondays from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on the following dates:
