The Freshman Experience

All incoming ninth graders enroll in College and Career Seminar where they will learn skills necessary to be successful in high school, complete career exploration activities, and interact with collegiate level students and administration. This course provides students with the tools to transition to high school successfully.  Ultimately, students choose an academy and pathway that will lead to personal success and self sufficiency during their 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years.

Choosing a pathway such as the Education Pathway within the Academy of Health and Public Service, is like choosing a college major. These pathways are smaller learning communities that provide all students with a sense of belonging , help develop strong student-teacher relationships, and allow students to take specialized courses based on their interests.

No matter what academy and pathway they choose, courses will relate to authentic problems being faced by local businesses. Opportunities like job shadowing and internships will provide hands-on experiences that help will allow students understand career options, and provide increased technical and soft skills.

GENERAL ACADEMIC COURSES SUCH AS MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH AND

SOCIAL STUDIES WILL BE TAUGHT THROUGH THE THEME OF EACH ACADEMY.
