A Pathway to the Classroom

Everett High School (EHS) held a Future Teacher Signing Day Ceremony on Tuesday, May 30th for the 12 senior members of the Education Pathway. Modeled on the signing days that are popular for students announcing where they will further their athletic careers, the EHS students signed a document indicating that they are planning to pursue the education profession in the future.

As part of their senior year, the students completed an internship with a classroom teacher in the Everett Public Schools. Interest and enrollment in the pathway has grown significantly in recent years, and will continue to expand in 2023-2024 and beyond, according to ELA Department Chair Ryan McGowan.

In addition to Mr. McGowan, ELA teachers Sarah Simmons and Amanda Pickewicz helped organize the ceremony, which was held inside the EHS Library in front of relatives, teachers, and guests. Superintendent Priya Tahiliani also joined the festivities and personally congratulated the students.

Marcela DeSouza and Lina Bonilla Alvarez delivered the student remarks in English and Spanish, as they talked about their experiences in the Education Pathway.
