To our parents, students, and staff,

Now that the Everett Public Schools (EPS) is offering full-time in-person teaching and learning, protocols such as face coverings, social distancing, and robust cleaning measures are in place to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission in our community. Free weekly COVID-19 PCR pooled testing is another layer of safety we are adding for our students and staff.

Here are the main components of the program:

  • While testing is not mandatory, it is recommended. We will start the testing program on Monday, April 26th.
  • Tests will be administered every Monday. Results will be available within 24-28 hours.
  • If the result of the pool is negative, then all individuals are presumed to not have COVID-19.
  • If the result of the pool is positive, then all individuals in the pool must be retested individually. Because pooled testing does not give individual results, you will only be notified if your child requires follow-up testing.
  • Our school will be providing the Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests for follow-up testing, so that students or staff in a positive pool can be tested as soon as possible and receive individual results in 15 minutes.
  • Students who are identified as part of a positive pool will not be required to quarantine and miss school. Only students determined to have individual positive test results will be expected to stay home and quarantine.

Pooled testing is the grouping of several test swab samples from a group of individuals, and the group is tested via a single diagnostic test. If the batch result comes back positive, then every member of the “pool” will receive an individual test.  Student and staff testing will help us maintain consistency and longevity in our in-person learning model by quickly detecting, tracing, and isolating COVID-19-positive individuals.

In our schools, the test will be performed using a short swab. Cataldo Ambulance will help with testing for students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade. Students in grades 2-8 will self-swab, under the supervision of a trained individual.

Concentric by Ginkgo is providing pool-testing services for the Everett Public Schools.
